: For the past 8 years I've received $300 a month for writing a one-page column in a trade magazine. The publisher on several occasions has sent me an Independent Contractor Agreement for me to sign. I have not signed any agreements because they are fundamentally biased in favor of the publisher, e.g., taking the right to re-publish my work without further compensation to me. : Recently, the publisher expressed an interest in publishing an anthology consisting of my best columns. I am very interested in creating an anthology but not with this particular publisher. : My questions are: : -In the absence of my signature on the Independent Contractor Agreement, can the publisher proceed on its own to publish the anthology? : -Can I proceed on my own to sell the anthology to a different publisher? : One last question: : -In addition to the monthly column, I have written 12 non-fiction books in two related fields. I have been my own negotiator in selling those books. It may be time for me to find an agent. Can you recommend an agent that would make a good match for me?
