Hackett, The USPTO trademark data base is the source. I have always resented, "the holier than thou", attitude of Doctors, because they are Doctors they know more than you and you must consult them in order to get anything done. Well I've been answering questions on this forum for a long time and I realize that as a lawyer I have the same, "holier than thou", attitude. It's not that I am smarter than you, it is the fact that there are often unseen problems that may be traps if you do it yourself. You may be able to find a database and you may be able to search it, but there may be legal subtlties that are overlooked. If you apply for a trademark or invest in its use the cost down the line once you are invested in it can be a terrible price to pay. I now believe that even though you may be able to do it yourself, the down the line risk are not worth the relatively small legal fees involved. With patents by the way, there is just no choice. I've only met about two non Patent Lawyers who understood patent practice well enough to solicit GOOD patents without a competant patent lawyer. Getting patents is not hard. Getting good patents is an art. The is a big scam in patents. M. Arthur Auslander
