Parody - Fair Use of Copyrighted Images?[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Copyright Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Brett on March 11, 1999 at 13:26:45:
In short, I had put up a Sesame Street parody site called Sesame Strip. It was clearly labeled as a parody and in no way tried to emulate an authorized site. I used my own material for stories but used images off the web of the various muppet characters for visual impact. I modified many of these images to fit the stories. If you go to the link, you can see the letter my ISP received, demanding that the site be shut down. I have not been able to find a clear cut case to verify if I was in violation of copyright laws or since the site was a parody, it was protected under fair use. Any advice would be appreciated, I'm considering contacting the ACLU. Thanks.
