: : If I wanted to write a book that is a collection of short phrases grabbed from internet bulletin boards/chat rooms to put forth a theory, does that fall within fair use? I'm not clear as to what falls within the definition of short phrase, which are supposedly not copywritable. Do comments in chat rooms or posts on bulletin boards carry any copywrite at all? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Dear Mr. Federspiel,
To make matters worse, the copyright law applies to what is created from the moment of creation.
You may be able to do what you describe but it must be done with an understanding of the law.
