Can a previously unknown Technique/Style now being used be basis of infringement of copyright??

I have been producing motion graphics/special effects for a stock footage company, and sometime ago I
explained in detail a series of new pieces that have a very distinct technique and style, with which interest
was shown, and a proposal intent for future production on such was listened to and entertained.
This proposal was to be put on a back burner for a couple of months from that point until the then present
schedule was complete.

After completing the then schedule I handed in the new series for direction as was agreed sometime ago, but
after not hearing anything for two months, I chased it up and was told that they now "already" have
something a little similar in progress being produced by another.

Having something similar was in no way expressed or indicated to me when I initially told them about this
particular technique/style, and I fear that they have taken my proposal for it to be produced by someone else.

Now although they may not be using my exact pieces, would it be seen that they have infringed any copyright
laws for things such as infringement of style and technique.
Indeed, as with all my pieces/styles/techniques, I excersized basic copyright by means of recorded delivery
sometime before letting them view such.

Any info would be as you can tell greatly appreciated.
I am based in the UK.

Thank you
Kind Regards

Lorraine Cassell
