: : : How do I get a copyright for a poem that I wrote? and is it free or do I have to pay an attorney or notory etc.?

: : Everyone has their hand out. The Official Fee just went up 50% to $30. You can do it yourself if you know how. Even if you do it yourself you still have to know what and why.

: : The copyright law covers what is created from the moment of creation. Registration give the right to sue.

: : The law can't be put in a paragraph. You have 100 years in which to apply for registration.

Dear Dennison,
It's free in that there is protection under the law from the moment of creation. Knowing how to use the the law and registering is not free.

The Governmemt has its fees. It is a good idea to get to know what and how. Intellectual Property lawyers charge there fees. Lawyers have to eat too and have overhead.
We enjoy saving clients money but we do have to charge fees for services too.
