Dear Wilma Elkins, It depends on what you do or want to do with your works. The copyright law covers works that have been created. Registration gives the right to sue. There are unpblished and unpublished registrations and question of international protection as well as the copyright notice. The Official Filing Fee is $30. If you have many poems we may be able to show you how to legally save filing fees. M. Arthur Auslander
