: : I would like to make clocks with specific backgrounds that cannot be found in stores. Is it legal to scan in pictures of Disney characters or other pictures like Barbie, add the numbers on the clocks, and make clocks from these pictures and sell them?

: : Another idea I had was to sell my idea, using pictures I took myself, to a manufacturer who could make these clocks in bulk and then sell them to department stores.

: : Please advise.

: Dear Susan,

: It's a jungle out there even if you know what to do. Copying is a clear and present danger. If I represented Disney or Barbie I'd try to hang you.
: I have no predjuice against you this is just a sample of what could happen.

Dear M. Arthur Auslander,

I really appreciate your quick response. I understand that there are clear and concise copyright laws out there that protect individuals and companies that have copyrights. Can you advise me what I can LEGALLY do and maybe some pointers of what to look out for in my inventions. I have many ideas, but not a lot of knowledge about copyright laws. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Susan
