It seems that you are intrested in a trademark. Trademarks are registerable. Trade names are not protected by registration. A search must be conducted in any event. The price depends or what the facts are. Trademarks and copyrights are probably the biggest bargain one can get in the law. Copyrights are good for life plus 70 years. Trademarks are registered fpr 10 years but renewable forever as long as they are in use.
