Thank you for your response and in follow-up, I am a Canadian citizen, and the work was created in Canada. Legal sources have informed me that as the work was created while under the employ of another, that party is the owner and I only retain 'moral rights' as the author.
In reading the Canadian act (excerpt follows), this seems to be correct.

In reading the Canadian act, this seems to be correct. My concern is that the company does not consider me to be an 'employee', I do not receive 'employee benefits', nor am I socially perceived as an employee since I was hired under verbal terms as a "temp" to perform administrative overload and only came to develop intellectual properties due to my skills and knowledge.
