He had them registered and copyrighted on a website, www.photoreflect.com. There was a copyright notice over each image with a watermark. I went there and saw my photos where I had the option to buy them but didn't want to do this. I looked through the source code, and found the direct URL without the watermark over the image which the ones off of the photoreflect site had, and saved them to my webpage and then printed them. Is this legal? If I didn't give the photographer the permission to publish them, does that give him the rights to them still? Does it matter if the coordinator hired him at this event or not? Please let me know! Dear Matthew, I disavow any legal responsibilitly for my unresearch thoughts here. The photographer would seem to have the right to take the pictures as news or for his own purpose and he owns these rights and can sell the prints to you without you having a right to the picture. If he sells your picture to others, then your right might be violated. I'm not clear on his rights to display them on the web. I don't think he has the right to use your picture commercially. The law on that may be beyond the copyright law. Your copying though, whether or not you rights have been vioilated may be an infringement on his rights. There are other technical questions to consider insofar as registration is concern. M. Arthur Auslander
