: I've seen cookbooks that list recipes from other cookbooks. If I produce a cookbook, can I legally use recipes from other sources if credited? Is there a limit? What if I modify the recipe to make it different (healthier)? Dear Mr. Hayward, The copyright law protects the mode of expresssion not the content. Copying the mode of expression of the creator is the infringement. A little legsl research could set the comfortable parameters for what can and can't be done and how to do it. There is a mixed bag of cases on copied telephone books. M. Arthur Auslander
