It appears as if he may have violated a fiduciary duty to the company getting the information while employed. It looks like an act of unfair competition. He may be enjoingable. he may be liable for punitive damages.
I am responding thinking in terms of US law a practice. In the US he might be handled harshly in view of the way he acted and might be liable for actual damages which might be trebled and your attorney's fees.
