Dear Mr. Parry, Without taking any professional responsibility for this answer, I think that a commentary about the pictures on the book, which is not a translation, would not be a copyright infringement. The information is not the subject matter of a copyright. The comment would have to be the facts in your words. If I were the copyright owner I would look into what you are doing as and unfair act.
