Does my computer game need copyright protection?

I'm developing a game for web browsers that people
will be able to download or actually play over the
Internet. I'm planning on making the game free for
anyone. I want to protect the game so that someone
just couldn't download the game and change a few things
to call it their own creation. The game uses a cutting
edge technology and it'll be the first of its kind.
I want my name associated with the game only. Am I
automatically protected legally if someone does make a
copy of the game and claims that it's their own? Am
I overlooking anything else here?
