: My band is just about finished our demo and we will be distributing it to radio stations and record labels. I wanted to know if simply mailing myself a copy of the material and leaving it unopened would be sufficient proof of ownership and date of production. Do we need to follow a more formal process to protect ourselves or will that be sufficient.
: If we need to register it how would we go about that...should we use our given names or the name of the band?...If we use the band name how do we get ownership of the name?....should we form a legal partnership and copyright it under that name?
: Thank You - Robert Piperno
The questions involved could fill a book. You have to act quickly to fully protect your rights. What has to be done is not very expensive.
The other questions are also very important and ought to be dealt with asap. There is no pat answer. It repends on the situation.
