: : : : : If I own a CD, and copy a song from it, by recording it through the mic, make it a wav file and play it on my website and put a disclaimer on the site, can I use the song on my website? I did buy the CD. I am just wondering if I can do this.
: : : : : Thanks.
: : : : Don't try it. Without research, if I represented the copyright owner I'd go after you and collect. That might include statutory damages and plaintiff's attorney's fees.
: : : I have seen websites playing samples from songs, and not the whole song, would I be able to do this?
: : Dear Patrick,

: What if I take the music from the artists website, that is made available to the public?
Even if the artist is naive not to have registered the copyright, it can still be registered and you can be burned.
A Reality Check could put you into perspective. I'll bet you have scars on your fingers already.
