: I am manufacturing a gift card in which on the front cover I wanted to use an excerpt from a song. For instance, "How Sweet it is to be Loved By You" by James Taylor. These cards will be sold in gift shops. Do I need copyright permission for this. Will it cost me anything? Where do I go to get permission if I need it. I tried BMI, and ASCAP, but I keep getting different answers, BMI says I don't need permission if it's part of the title, and ASCAP can't help me if it's just for publishing purposes. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be miss-informed, and then have it cost me time & money down the road.
