Registation emables enforcement against infringers. If the poems are published the publisher usually take are of the registration. There should be a writtem agreement with the publisher. You should be certain that you are protected with the publisher. Unplublished copyrights can be registered. They are often a waste of money except in special situations. The official filing fee has recently gone up to #30. M.
